The Russells are an acoustic roots and contemporary folk musical duo based in the Thousand Islands area of Southern Ontario. Both play guitar, sing and write original music as well as interpret a wide range of songs they love from artists spanning pop, country, blues, singer-songwiter, bluegrass and Americana.
Jayne and Steve met in the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina in contemporary folk songwriting classes at the Swannanoa Gathering, and quickly discovered that they were musical kindred spirits. Raised on radio hits by the Beatles, the Everly Brothers and James Taylor and later steeped in roots and folk influences like the Carter Family, David Wilcox and John Prine; their musical collaboration reflects all of these. Their original songs showcase their love of beautifully blended close harmony, thought-provoking lyrics and a wide range of irresistible grooves ranging from the soft intimacy of a lullaby to high-voltage rocking blues.
Currently Jayne and Steve are enjoying a collboration with producer and master musician Joe Craven. They have just completed and released Jayne's latest project, the album “That'd Be Hank”, a celebration of the 100th anniversary of Hank William Sr.'s birth. And now, they are at work on an album of original material of Steve's.
